Tetras / Other Characins

Tetras - for all your peaceful fish needs
If you're looking for a relatively small, brilliantly colored, and usually well behaved fish for a community tank, then the Tetras are what you want.

Tetras are more or less reknowned for their dazzling colors and sparkling iridescences. However, they have sharp teeth in their jaws, and an extra small fin between the dorsal and caudal fins called the adipose. These unique characteristics are what help to distinguish them from the rest of the characidae family.

Most Tetras are omnivorous, with a few herbivores scattered throughout. They make excellent aquarium and community fish, especially when kept in schools with a good amount of vegetation. Bushy plants will provide spawning fish with good receptacles for the eggs.
