The Angelfish is perhaps one of the most recognizable and popular freshwater aquarium fish on the common market. It's tall, elegant lines and laterally compressed body lend to it's inherent grace in a tank. It is their size, however, that requires a taller make of aquarium.
Breeding the Angelfish can be accomplished by leveling the pH to 7.0, and keeping the water temperature towards 85 F (29 C). However, it is difficult to determine the sex of an Angelfish, so pairing may take some work. Once the pair mate, the eggs are laid upon near vertical surfaces such as broad leaved plants and even the front glass. Here, they are deligently guarded until the fry hatch.
The Angelfish is a good beginner fish that is relatively peaceful (though it may become aggressive during breeding) and suited for a community tank. (Do not put Angelfish in with Neons, though - as they are natural enemies of one another.) They are also availible in a variety of colors such as: Gold, Marbled, Half-Black and others - if you are attempting to maintain a color scheme in your aquarium.
This is definitely one of the best Angelfish sites out there. Tons of information on breeding and keeping the Angelfish, as well as an excellent link list to other sites and photos.
